the spirit and the flesh

He will raise the dead
The starving shall be fed
He will take your pain
Your suffering and shame
He will span the crest
Between the spirit and the flesh
He will raise the dead

Jesus came to lift us from the mud
God in dwelling in real flesh and blood
Don't be angry; he just loves you so
Let his spirit come and take control
It has begun....

awe

I've been spending very carefree, serene and joyful days with my Caroline recently. Everyting seems to work out just fine, we're as happy as can be and looks like we've finally come to sudden realization that some pretty serious decisions simply must be reached. I'm so impatient while thinking about the first week of August and the events that will inevitably take place. So excited ! So happy ! And Caroline... she's just getting more and more beautiful with each and every single day, can't stop looking at her with awe and desire. She's so so so so amazing.

Finally sat down and watched Bernaldo Bertolucci's "1900"

Took me ages to sit down and watch this loooooong movie but having spent those over 5 hours watching it I claim that "Novecento" is one big underrated piece of art. What a marvelous story, beautiful acting, eyecatching sceneries, inspired directing. I love this kind of slowly built narratives that present spectators with the characters' lives and their struggles. Robert De Niro, Gerard Depardieu, Burt Lancaster and Donald Sutherland make these 5+ hours pass like a thunder before our eyes. Highly recommended.

"The Pacific" Miniseries

Saw "The Pacific" miniseries last fortnight and having enjoyed the previous Spielberg/Hanks production ("Band of Brothers") my expectations were pretty high. I enjoyed the series very much, I loved the visuals, the camera work, breathtaking shots - especially during the Peleilu and Okinawa Invasion. The shots were intricate and detailed, graphic, fast yet extremely sharp and clear. That's not very common in productions like this. Guess the advance of the modern visual technology adds to this kind of production a great deal. I was really happy that the traditional Spielberg's dull and predictable "family values" plot was not the big part of the story and was minimized to a nice story of the main character's struggle to take part in, what he perceived, a glorified and worthy war. Loved "The Pacific" for its characters and for their struggles during The Pacific invasion. Loved the altering character and perception of main characters and the story of John Basilone. I loved it so much that having watched all ten episodes in couple days I already miss the characters and the opportunity to witness their days in mud, rain, heat and blood.
